Ashtanga Yoga

and

The Bandha Room

Ashtanga Yoga is a system of yoga study rooted in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.  Ashtanga means “8 limbs” and refers to an all encompassing practice that goes beyond merely the physical performance of Asana (postures).

The 8 limbs include yogic lifestyle, ethical behaviors, and meditation,  suggesting a specific relationship of the Yogi to self, and to all of life and Consciousness.

We begin our yogic journey caring for the body as our vehicle of consciousness, detoxifying and healing through a vigorous asana practice that creates lightness, strength, openness, and a steady nervous system.  Without health we cannot be effective in the world.

Yoga + Nutrition Therapy

Yoga and nutrition therapy are synergistic - pairing them can enhance the healing potential of each.

Yoga meaning "union", is a practice that reconnects and heals the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of ourselves.

Balanced.

Yoga is a moving meditation - with practice we become more present, regulated, and focused on and off the mat.

Practicing yoga asana (posture) requires that we learn to be both engaged and relaxed - balance and moderation.

Applied to nutrition, we learn to engage mindfully with food, while staying relaxed and flexible.

Mindful.

Mindful eating means to be involved only in eating, observing the sensory experiences, and abstaining from judgements

Yoga practitioners become more aware of their bodies many signals, including hunger and fullness cues.

This cultivates intuitive eating - lacking judgement, attuned and responsive to physical/mental/emotional needs, and eating mindfully.

Therapeutic.

Nutrition therapy and yoga work together as a powerful therapeutic approach to support immunity and help manage chronic health conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hormonal imbalances, and metabolic syndrome.

Specific yoga techniques help calm the nervous system, reduce inflammation, and strengthen the body’s natural defenses.

Integrative.

Yoga also supports communication between the brain and the immune system by balancing key hormones, neurotransmitters, and immune signals. Practicing regularly naturally boosts levels of serotonin, dopamine, and GABA — “feel-good” chemicals that reduce anxiety, lift mood, and improve overall well-being.

Choosing yoga and nutrition therapy offer a path to changing your life and your health, one breath and one bite at a time.
